Criminals may lurk around beach access points

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police want the public to take precautions when frequenting the beach this summer.

With car burglaries happening the most at beach access parking lots, they say criminals are looking for opportunities. Police say make sure you lock your doors and don't leave valuables left on car seats.

Police name suspect in golf cart thefts

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Police have named a suspect in a number of golf cart thefts and hope the public can help locate him.

According to a Facebook past on Horry County Police Department "Official Page", Jeffrey Lewis Floyd is wanted for golf cart thefts in Little River and Garden City.

If you know where he is, please call the Horry County Police Tip Line at 915-TIPS.

Suspect in police standoff dies from gunshot wound

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The man transported to the hospital after holding officers at bay in a standoff outside his home has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The police standoff on Laurel Woods Drive ended when police officers set off a flash grenade and entered the home, Horry County Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler said.

District offers social media guidelines for students

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - There's a big misconception when it comes to tweeting and posting on sites like Facebook.

Horry County School District spokeswoman, Teal Britton, says many students don't realize inappropriate comments and pictures they post on social media, could call for disciplinary action, even it was posted outside of school hours and off of school property.

Mark Lazarus takes office as Horry Co. Council Chair

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Newly elected Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus will be sworn into office on Tuesday, May 7.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in Horry County Council Chambers, located on the second floor of the Horry County Government and Justice Center in Conway.

The event is open to the public with a reception to follow.

Coastal Uncorked postponed to 2014

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Thanks to a ruling regarding alcohol, food and wine festival Coastal Uncorked has been canceled for 2013.

According to the news release from Stephen Greene, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, the festival originally scheduled for the week of June 3 through June 8, 2013 has been postponed until 2014.

This news comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the SC Department of Revenue regarding "donated alcoholic products for non-profit events."
